With Easter 2018 falling on April 1, April in Tenerife is definitely kicking off with a bang, but that’s not to say that the rest of the month will be any less engaging. In fact, there’s enough going on in the next 30 days to suit anyone’s taste — so much so that our list of April 2018 Tenerife Events is a mere overview of some of the great things scheduled for this busy month.
April 2018 Tenerife Foodie Events
As expected, the lofty titles mentioned above mean a host of happenings and food & wine promotions in both Tegueste and Arico all month long. Worth special mention, however, are Arico’s Breads of the World Fair on April 8, and Craft Beer Fair on April 28.
Another great event is Adeje’s tapas competition which began March 23 and closes on April 1 (Ruta de la Tapa: Cocina de Cuaresma). The contest not only invites the public to vote for their favourite tapa but also to enter to win one of two grand prizes.
April 8 is also the date of this month’s Vintage Market Day in La Laguna, a fashion-centered event that inevitably includes an wide offer of gourmet foods for sale.
Foodies are also sure to enjoy the wine tasting workshop to be held at El Sauzál’s Casa del Vino on April 14, especially since it approaches Tenerife’s gastronomical heritage through the eyes of notable 17th- and 18th-century travelers.
April 2018 Sports Events in Tenerife
As far as sports are concerned, there’s no shortage of fun either. Las Galletas will be hosting a Sports Fair on April 7, and a Half-Marathon (10.8 km and 5 km) the following day.
There’s a number of other races taking place throughout the month, so we’ll mention the more prominent ones:
- the Downhill Biking Championship in Suculum on April 8,
- the Pinolere Trail running contest on April 22,
- the first ever Open Water Circuit swimming competition in Playa San Juan (Guía de Isora) on April 28,
- the Los Catalanes Circular Trail mountain run also on April 28,
- the La Laguna Half-Marathon on April 29.
And if you happen to be in the company of teens who love basketball, you might also enjoy the International Youths Basketball Tournament to be held in Santiago del Teide April 19-21.
April 2018 Music Events
Considering how many concerts are scheduled for April in Tenerife we could have easily called it the month of music, too.
Opening the month in Santa Cruz are the Jazz and Nature Photography Festival (April 5 – May 31) and performances by Futuro Terror (April 6-7) and famous Argentinian singer/songwriter Alberto Cortez on April 8, while on April 7 The Voice winner Alba Gil will take the stage in La Laguna and Dr Alban will perform in Adeje as part of the Children of the 80s festival.
Rufus T. Firefly is set to perform in Santa Cruz on April 13, followed by the April 14 live concert by reggae heavyweights UB40 in La Laguna. Also on the 14th El Sauzál will be featuring many prominent musicians paying tribute to Queen and Canarian band Efecto Pasillo will be performing a free concert in Tegueste in honour of St. Mark’s Day.
April 20 in La Laguna will be quite eventful with Joey Daniel performing at the Buho Club and Ricardo Ribeiro taking the stage at the Canary Islands Fado Festival. The following day the Buho Club will be hosting Spanish singer, poet and songwriter Fran Fernández.
Tenerife April 2018 Fiestas and Festivals
In addition to its many foodie festivals, April has quite a few great dance/theatre/family fun festivals and fiesta’s happening as well.
The weekend of April 13-15 is especially busy with Santiago del Teide hosting the TLP Weekend (a gaming/cosplay/IT/e-sports/AI/robotics event) and the Once Upon a Time (Érase) theatre/literature/music/oral narrative festival taking place in Realejo Bajo.
The following weekend in Santa Cruz is just as packed. There’s a Kizomba-themed fiesta at the O-Club on April 20-21, overlapping with the capital’s unique Plenilunio or full-moon fiesta on the 21st — a medley of dance and music, sports activities, open-air theatre performances, great food and lots of other fun throughout the city, lasting well into the wee hours.
On the heels of that, La Laguna will be hosting its 7 Islands Swing Festival from April 26 to 29 – a four-day event filled with dance classes, parties and competitions – with Tegueste pitching in with its own 7 Islands Folk Festival on April 28.
