With festivals, fiestas and concerts of all shapes and sizes scheduled throughout the month, June 2018 events on Tenerife do not disappoint. There’s absolutely an event for everyone, while most people will have a hard time picking where to go because there’s just so much going on.
Focal points definitely include the Corpus Christi and Midsummer Night celebrations across the island, as well as a colourful array of sports events and too many concerts to mention (but we will highlight the Mar Abierto Festival along with visiting performances by The Martinez Brothers and Sharif). As usual, we’ve organised everything by category, so read on for a detailed list of Tenerife events in June 2018.
June 2018 Fiestas & Festivals
While May 2018 was indeed the month of fiestas, June lags only slightly behind. From June 2 to 7, all of Tenerife will be getting ready for Corpus Christi, with cities across the island carpeting their roads with intricate floral displays — and all that in addition to a series of patronal fiestas combining county fairs, country balls, concerts and more throughout the month.
Worth special mention are the fiestas in Granadilla de Abona (June 2 -10), the biggest event of its kind in South Tenerife, as well as the ones La Orotava (also June 2 -10) and Tacoronte (June 3 to 17). El Sauzal, on the other hand, will be celebrating St. Peter with folk performances and sports meets all month long.
On June 2 &3, the fourth annual Nautical Fair will take place in Las Galletas, a huge event combining athletic competitions, leisure activities and lots of good food.
Also happening early on is the Canary Islands’ International Ecological Film Festival (aka Ficmec), which began in Garachico on May 25 and closes June 3.
And if you enjoy traditional fiestas, be sure to check out one of the many Midsummer night celebrations (June 23) which include bonfires, the Icod de los Vinos Torch Procession and the Sound of Shells procession in San Juan de la Rambla.
Tenerife Foodie Events
Aside from the fact that the majority of celebrations mentioned above entail an abundance of local food and drink, June also has a handful of events specifically for foodies.
First among these is the La Granadilla Craft and Grastronomy Fair on June 2 & 3. This is closely followed by the craft beer Tacoa Brewery and Restaurant celebrating its 17th anniversary, with live music and lots of superb beer in El Sauzal on June 8.
Another anniversary takes place in Los Silos on June 10: the town’s Farmers’ Market is celebrating its 10th birthday, which translates to lots of folk music, dancing and free samples locally produced food. June 10 is also this month’s Vintage Market Day in La Laguna.
Lastly, a true foodie should not miss the fusion dinners to be served at La Laguna’s Hotel Nivaria on June 15-16, especially since these gourmet meals will be prepared by four famous chefs to illustrate the blend of Canarian, Equadorian and Venezuelan cuisine.
Music & Dance on Tenerife
With the Buho Club in La Laguna offering live shows every weekend and countless other locations competing to outdo each other, Tenerife really has a regular selection of all kinds of music. (For a full list of concerts be sure to check out Guía de Ocio or Toma Ticket.)
The month’s repertoire starts full throttle in La Laguna, with a tribute to Fito & Fitipaldis at the Buho Club, Sharif taking the stage at the Aguere Cultural Space, and the launch of the International Jazz Week (June 1-9) all on June 1. The next day (June 2) capital Santa Cruz will be hosting Pablo Milanés as part of the Mar Abierto 2018 Festival, as well as an 80s throwback event entitled Rembember the Good Old Times.
The following weekend is just as busy. On June 8, Puerto de la Cruz will host the final dance party of the Canarias Salsa Open while The Martinez Brothers are performing at the Cubik Club in Santa Cruz. Then there’s the jam-packed June 9: Ilan Chester is on in Santa Cruz (and again in Adeje on June 10); Eneko Solana and friends will be performing at La Laguna‘s Buho Club; the Italian AC/DC tribute band Riff Raff will be playing in Santa Cruz; and the Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife in Adeje will be having its Lagoon Party — a medley of performances, pool fun, fashion shows, food and more.
Overlapping next — on June 15 — are a concert by Escuela de Calor at the Buho Club and the arrival of Cabaret Tropicana in Arona, with the latter staying and performing until the end of the month. On June 16, the +Q Rock Festival is happening in Los Realejos, Sabrina Salerno is singing in Adeje as part of Children of the 80s Festival, Pablo Lopez is taking the stage in Santa Cruz and the Amy Remember Show — an Amy Winehouse tribute band — is scheduled to play in Puerto de la Cruz.
Closing the month is are a U2 Tribute at the Buho Club and the La Laguna Music Party (eight hours of live music performances in all genres in the streets of the city) both on June 23, followed by a concert by Antonio José in El Sauzal on June 29.
Classical music buffs might enjoy Los Capricos musicales de Isla Baja — a series of public weekend concerts taking place alternately in Garachico, Los Silos, Buenavista del Norte and El Tanque until late July — and should definitely check out the repertoire of Tenerife’s most famous concert hall, Auditorio de Tenerife.
Tenerife Sports Events
As far as sports events go, the month takes off with the Hoya del Abade Mountain Bike Marathon in La Victoria de Acentejo on June 2 & 3, and the second event of the 12th Tenerife Golf Circuit on June 2 (event number three in the series happens on June 30).
June 7-8 has a Sports Fair scheduled at the Recinto Ferial Exhibition Centre in Santa Cruz, which will be followed by the Cajamar Tenerife Bluetrail Mountain Run through Teide National Park on June 9. The marathon will comprise races for five different levels, including a category for people with disabilities and an ultra-professional route over 100 km long.
Last but not least is the Aripe Mountain Race on June 30, a fun run along old trails in the hamlet of Aripe, near Guía de Isora.
